Molly Gorman Dumas resides on, and is influenced by the craggy Oregon coast. Having studied fine art under renown Chicago artists John Weber and Sandra Jorgensen, she has refined her craft in hand-pulled linocut block prints, painting and drawing. Her commissioned illustrations, rendered in graphite or acrylic, include portaits, landscapes and ships.
Background
Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow me
The artist's work was informed by her parallel career in nonprofit humanitarian, educational and environmental organizations in Utah and Oregon. She was particularly moved by the history, iconography and humanitary service of patron saints of Catholic tradition, as well as Greek gods. The images of such legends are depicted as abstractions.
Block prints transitioned to greater realism during her career track in private education, as well as her treasured years of mother hood and environmental exploration. Her later work radiates in vivid color, reflecting the vast spectrums and gradients of life experiences and the natural world.
